Being a writer is wild. Truly. Some days you get a call that your book sold and you feel like you’ve totally got this. Most days, it’s a bit of a grind, sitting down to get the words on the page and tell a story you’re proud of. And sometimes you’re totally adrift in the void between one project and the next.
Can you guess where I am at the moment?
What do you think I’m working on?
Small town/celebrity romance
High school reunion/bodyguard romance
Best friend’s brother romance
Friends to lovers/surprise baby romance
Single mom/oops it’s my kid’s teacher romance
Cozy boarding school YA?
Feminine rage thriller?
All of the above
Seriously, though, please tell me what I’m working on. My brain is fried.
it’s the most busiest time of the year
Despite the sun working less, this time of year is always so busy, I’m not sure how I get through. Between schedules ramping up at my day job, juggling holiday schedules with school and daycare, keeping up with family visits and travel, I feel like I barely have time to breathe.
And it’s usually when I’m busiest that I also get fired up to write something new. Of course, I have no time to write it unless I sacrifice sleep. I don’t know why I’m this way, but I would guess it has to do with my need to escape into story this time of year.
How many story ideas will I come up with in these next few weeks? Nobody knows. I just know I will desperately be needing a nap somewhere in there.
holiday cheer
I hope all of you have holidays that are safe, warm, and with people you love and who love you back, whatever that looks like.
As we go into 2025—especially in the US—I want you to remember that joy is resistance, too. You’re allowed to be happy, you’re allowed to do what brings you fulfillment, even if it isn’t a “proper” protest. It’s easy to drown in despair—and feelings of despair and anger are absolutely valid—but I want you to remember your joy.
shameless self-promotion
If you like hearing from me, please buy my book or recommend it to your friends!
Take a few deep breaths, Ingrid. Don't push yourself too hard, focus on what you can, and give yourself the gift of being present and enjoying the magic of the holiday season. You've got this!
